Safeguarding - RSHE Consultation 2026
The Department for Education (DfE) has published updated statutory guidance for Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE), which comes into effect from 1 September 2026 and replaces the previous guidance introduced in 2019.
As a Catholic school, we are committed to supporting the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of every pupil in a way that reflects the teachings and values of the Catholic Church. We recognise that parents and carers are the first and most important educators of their children, particularly in matters relating to relationships, personal development and health. Our role as a school is to work in partnership with families, supporting and complementing the education and formation that begins at home.
Following consideration of the programmes available to support the delivery of RSHE, we have chosen to use Life to the Full, developed by Ten Resources. Ten is an established Catholic educational organisation with considerable experience in producing resources for Catholic schools.
Life to the Full has been approved by our Diocese and has been designed specifically to support Catholic schools in delivering Relationships, Sex and Health Education within the context of Catholic teaching. Ten has also worked in partnership with the Catholic Education Service and the Department for Education to support training for teachers in Catholic schools. We believe that Life to the Full provides an appropriate programme for our pupils and reflects the Catholic ethos and values of our school.
A key principle of Life to the Full is the recognition of the important role played by parents and carers in their children’s education. The programme provides resources to help families understand what is being taught in school and enables parents and carers to continue this learning at home through age-appropriate discussion, activities and prayer.
Parent and carer consultation
We value the views of our parents and carers and would like you to be involved in the development of our approach to RSHE. In particular, we would welcome your views on some of the decisions the school will make regarding the teaching of specific topics. We have therefore opened a consultation period to provide parents and carers with an opportunity to learn more about our provision, ask questions and share feedback.
Ten provides an online Parent Consultation Tool to support this process. This short and accessible online course:
-
provides an overview of the statutory requirements and changes
-
explains the Catholic vision for Relationships and Health Education
-
demonstrates how Life to the Full supports the delivery of the statutory curriculum within a Catholic context
-
provides information about areas where the school is seeking the views of parents and carers
-
responds to a range of frequently asked questions
Ten also provides an Online Parent Portal, which will be available throughout the year to help families remain informed about the learning taking place in school and provide opportunities to support learning at home.
