In our topic lessons we have been learning about the Great Fire of London. We were able to have a visit from the Corby Fire Station who spoke to us about the Great Fire and what we have learnt from it. We were able to use our knowledge from our lessons to take part in a quiz and we were able to answer every question correctly!
We have started to look at measurements in our Maths lessons. We used rulers and metres sticks to measure classroom objects in CM and M. We created a step-by-step guide to make sure we measured accurately. We used our skills to order measurements and even had a chance to measure our arms and legs!
During the Autumn term we were learning about lots of different materials. We explored our school environment to see what materials we could identify. We started looking around a classroom and then we went outside to our new outdoor classroom. It was so much fun exploring around the school.
In our Signs and Symbols topic we looked at the importance of Baptism. We looked at other Baptism prayers and picked out key words and phrases that we thought were important. After we discussed these words, we worked in groups to produce our own Baptism prayers. We then read them out for the rest of the class to hear and they were displayed on our Come and See RE board.
In our Maths lessons we were thinking about all the different ways you could make one particular number. We thought about the tens and ones in each number and used the resources to show this in as many ways as possible. We enjoyed our practical lesson and had plenty of opportunities to discuss our understanding of place value.
For our Road Safety week we were lucky enough to get the chance to sit in the cab of a lorry. We realised that lorry drivers cannot see us if we are too close to the vehicle and we must use our road safety knowledge to keep ourselves safe when walking around. It was a great experience climbing up into the lorry and looking out over our friends below!
To end our Bright Lights, Big City topic we had a Great Fire of London Day. We had a go at making bread like the baker in Pudding lane would have done. We all tasted our bread and thought it was delicious! We also used cardboard boxes and newspaper to create our own model of a house from 1666. We then painted them white with brown stripes on them. It was a great way to end our topic!
